U.S. Strikes Iran-Backed Targets For 3rd Straight Day—Houthis Come Under Fire

U.S. and coalition forces conducted more air strikes against Iran-backed militant groups, this time striking more Houthi targets in Yemen, as the military continues a campaign of airstrikes in retaliation for the drone attack on the Tower 22 base in Jordan, which killed three American servicemembers. Key Facts U.S. forces launched the first retaliatory strikes for the Tower 22 attack on Friday night, targeting more than 85 Iran-backed militant positions in Iraq and Syria and killing an estimated 40 people, Reuters reported. On Saturday night around 11:30 p.m. local time, U.S. and coalition forces conducted another round of air strikes on 36 Houthi targets in Yemen, including “multiple underground storage facilities, command and control, missile systems, UAV storage and operations sites, radars, and helicopters,” U.S. Central Command said in a press release. Around 4 a.m. on Sunday, U.S. forces in the Red Sea struck an anti-ship cruise missile that the U.S. said was launched by Houthi forces on the mainland and posed an “imminent threat” to U.S. Navy and merchant vessels in the region.
